1864 — British troops, including a portion of the Waikato militia recruited in Australia, besieged 300 Maori in their  pa (fort) at ORAKAU, New Zealand, during the Maori War. The Maori attempted to break out but were hunted down. Up to 160 Maori were killed and 33 taken prisoner. British casualties were 16 killed and 52 wounded

1900 — Allied forces, including Tasmanian Defence Force personnel and Queensland Mounted Infantry troops were ambushed at SANNAH’S POST, South Africa, during the BOER WAR. Two Queenslanders were killed, two wounded, and five were taken as prisoners

1921 — Formation of the Royal Australian Air Force
